Bad luck continued, arrived to see Squiz heading off to Manor. He said 8.5 and I thought crazy, got to be 7.5, as the sea was rough and it was windy. However he didn't look over when he launched, Colsey rigged 9.5/Formula and called me whimp - so went 8.5 Gaastra Phantom cam sail / 145 Patrik. Colsey shot off to the Manor with a couple of tight reaches he went past the Fludg. Andy M arrived said it measured 20kts so I knew I was right...this is not going to end well. Even the dippy who beached his yacht in the low tide at the river mouth was a sign. Shot off the beach way over, tight beat through the river way out the other side to get a high beat mark. The river was horrendous and my adjustable outhaul slacken to make matters worse, (couldn't grab it). Even with such a long close reach, there was no chance of making fludge and lost sight of Colesy. Had to beach half way to fludge and crank downhaul / outhaul, and waited to see if the squall would ease. It didn't so decided to keep going, as the beat slowed you up. Had 2 more tries but every time didn't gain much ground and on the last attempt beached the wrong side of the Fludge. The waves were huge and launching in the dumps took ages. Abandon the Manor trip, then saw Swainey and Squiz come belting round the point way out to sea with Colsey hanging on to his 9.5 for dear life, close to the beach. Set the boom higher for the nightmare run back, again, didn't go downwind far enough so had to put 2 more runs in to get back. Boy was I glad to see land... 30 minutes after landing the sea flattened and the wind drop to 8.5 weather, bloody marvellous. Andy M change to 6m and had a decent sail. Wished I had stayed home... as completely knackered and cold, after a crap sail.
